Beef
Generally speaking red meat has a bad reputation. The problem here is the way in which the cow is raised. Grass-fed pasture cattle is one of the best sources of anti-inflammatory omega-3 fatty acids and high-quality protein, putting it among the super foods!!
Tips: factory farming however, feeds cattle on wheat, corn and concentrated feed. This creates a beautiful marbling effect that is much desired among consumers, unfortunately it also transforms the beef into a highly inflammatory product. Lean variants (a fat content below 18 percent) are super good for our health.
Eggs
These rounded, hard skinned ovals are the most available sources of protein, Egg yolks are great for developing nerve sheaths and are best consumed runny.
Fish
Fish has also gained something of a bad reputation, and there are many people who just don’t like it. However, high-quality fish contains plenty of proteins and omega-3 fatty acids😋
Sardins: You can’t go wrong with sardins. They are wonderful source of omega-3 fatty acids, they are caught in the wild and they are cheap!
Herring: contains less mercury than other omega-3-rich fish you may be eating, like tuna. Try it chilled, with a light marinade in olive oil, red onion, pepper, fresh coriander and a touch of lime, yumm!
Tips: if you want to go for a big fish, take into accounte the larger the fish is the more toxins accumulate in the fatty tissues like heavy metals (I would never think about this!). The most recommended big variety is Alaskan wild salmon. If you can’t find this fish in the supermarket/fishmonger, which I struggle with to😅, you can use Alaskan fish oil capsules instead.
Lamb and pork
Lean variants are preferable for both.
Tips: for chicken, duck, and goose (which are very lower in protein than I thought, but delicious for many of us) it is advised to make sure that the poultry is raised without hormones or antibiotics and if possible, as an organic variant.
